An artist and designer couple started the tea brand by accident due to a project they worked for a client who owned a tea house and asking them to design Yixing Tea Pot in 1999. The couple did not know much about tea and started learning from the client. The wife found the tea served by the client not impressive and she discussed with her husband if they could source their own. They finally did and developed a brand for handcrafted teas from authentic origins in China - MingCha
The couple worked together hand-in-hand until 2007 they decided to separate and let the wife to continue to work on the brand. From 2007, the wife took charge of the brand and continues to strive to deliver the best value-for-money tea to tea lovers in the world. Her name is Vivian Mak.
Be open. Be curious. Be humble.
Since we did not have a background in tea, everything is so new and exciting. We keep our eyes open and ask lots of questions along the way. We build our knowledge by going straight to the tea farms, understand the trees and processing from the farmers and craftsmen; identify what factors will govern the quality of tea.
Simple and Direct.
We love to share what we have discovered in tea with others in a simple and user-friendly language, so you can experience the 5000 years of tea history one step at a time with us.
Established in 1999
A limited edition of 150 cans of MingCha Guaihua Xiang was included in the official gift basket of the 74th Academy Awards in 2002.
